The Burrakatha was a traditional function in Andhra Pradesh that was performed for three days consecutively. It involved three different performers who indulged in narrating the story, singing the song and acting on the story. Usually these stories used to be picked up from mythology and the characters used to play for such mythological stories or politics.
Modern culture
Modern Telugu music has transformed in a big way. The Telugu film songs owe a great extent to the world renowned music composer A. R. Rahman. He is solely responsible for changing the entire music scenario in Telugu film industry by giving fair chances to new singers. Such new singers have found their way to making their mark in the industry as well as in the peoples’ hearts.
Some of the famous Telugu singers also include S.P. Balasubramanian, Mano, Shreya Ghosal, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Sumangali, Chitra, Ganga, Kalpana, Usha and Nithya. Some of the singers who have made it big in the Hindi films have also sung for the Telugu film industry.
Some of the renowned music composers in Telugu are A.R. Rahman, Raghavulu, Saluri Rajeswara Rao, M.M. Keeravani, Ilaiyaraaja, K. V. Mahadevan and Vidyasagar. Some of the famous Telugu tracks are Har Manzar, Thiruvadi Charanam, Vedha, Paruvame, Ukku Ukku, Salaame and Om Arunachaeswaraya Namaha.
