Turkish music – Its history and forms
The history of Turkish music goes back to the period when the Seljuk Turks
colonized Anatolia and Persia in the 11th century. With the immigration from
various regions, the diversity in the musical genres is also varied.
Turkish music is prevalent in various forms, such as:

• Arabesque
• Classical Turkish Music
• Folk and Regional

• Mehteran (Ottoman Military)
• Pop
• Protest
• Rap/Hip Hop
Anatolian rock
A combination of rock music and Anatolian folk elements was a result of the
influence of rock music on the Turkish scene. This lead to the emergence of a
unique fusion of rock and folk music, and it came to be known as Anatolian rock.
Arabesque
This music is named after the Arabic music as this style is mostly influenced by
Arabic sounds and melodies. It entered into the Turkish music scene in the 50s
and 60s.
